U.S. SailGP Team Come Up Short On Home Waters

It was disappointment for Taylor Canfield and co. in Los Angeles on Day 2

The U.S. SailGP Team endured a difficult second day of the Rolex Los Angeles Grand Prix, finishing 9th on the event leaderboard.
There was disappointment for Dylan Fletcher and Great Britain who missed out on a Final berth for the first time in season five, despite winning Fleet Races 5 and 6. In the end, it was Canada who emerged triumphant in the Final, seeing off New Zealand and Australia to claim their first win of the season.
After going 7-8-4-5 on Saturday, the U.S. SailGP Team fought hard in Fleet Race 5 to finish 10th, passing Italy at the last. Fortune appeared to abandon the U.S. in Fleet Race 6 as they were shut out at the start line by Great Britain, leaving both teams some way off the pace.
However, the home team battled harder to fight its way up the fleet and even moved up to 3rd at one stage. That set up a dramatic finish with the U.S. going head-to-head with France, Brazil and Spain in a four-way tussle, eventually clinching P9.

Another tricky start in Fleet Race 7 left the U.S. SailGP Team with work to do. Battling hard to finish on a high, they ended up playing the role of king maker as Great Britain watched nervously from the finish line. Entering the zone first at the final mark wasn’t enough, though, and Australia snuck into 8th, in doing so clinching a berth in the Final ahead of Britain. But victory belonged to Canada and Giles Scott – their first win after 727 days.
The U.S. SailGP Team will get the chance to put disappointment behind them next weekend in San Francisco in event five, between March 22-23.
